Mahashivratri, one of the most significant festivals in Hinduism, celebrates the glory of Lord Shiva. This festival holds special significance for little Gajerian, as it provides an opportunity to introduce them to the rich cultural heritage of India. One fascinating aspect of Mahashivratri is the reverence for the 12 Jyotirlingas, believed to be the divine abodes of Lord Shiva.

Let’s delve into how children can celebrate Mahashivratri while learning about the 12 Jyotirlingas.

Understanding Mahashivratri:

Mahashivratri, the ‘Great Night of Shiva,’ is celebrated annually in honor of Lord Shiva. It falls on the 14th day of the dark fortnight in the Hindu lunar month of Phalguna. On this auspicious day, devotees observe fasting, offer prayers, and participate in various rituals to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.

Introducing the “Dwadash Jyotirling”:

The 12 Jyotirlingas are revered shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, spread across different parts of India. Each Jyotirlinga is believed to represent a manifestation of Lord Shiva’s cosmic power. Learners learned about these sacred sites can be both educational and spiritually enriching.

Educators Narrate simple stories about Lord Shiva and his significance, focusing on his role as the creator, preserver, and destroyer. Encourage children to create artwork depicting Lord Shiva, the 12 Jyotirlingas, or scenes from Shiva’s mythology using colors and clay. Through such celebrations learners come forward to the worship of God and get aware of him. This festival is solemn and marks a remembrance of “ Overcoming darkness and ignorance” in life and the world .
