Makers Day is more than a celebration of creation; it’s about instilling a lifelong love for learning, exploration, and innovation in our young minds. This special event serves as a powerful reminder of the essential role creativity plays in early childhood education and the immense joy it brings to our little learners.
The 12th of October holds a special significance for all Gajerians, as it marks the birth anniversary of Late Trustee Mrs. Sunita Chunibhai Gajera. Each year, this day is celebrated as Makers Day, honoring her legacy of innovation, creativity, and collaboration across arts, culture, business, and sports. Makers Day is designed to empower learners to see themselves as inventors, creators, and builders. It is a space where children can experiment, grow, and learn through hands-on experiences using a variety of materials and tools.
At Gajera English Medium Pre-Primary Section, this year celebrated “PLANT A SMILE,” campaign under the Sunita’s Makerspace the day dedicated to creativity, exploration, and joyful learning. The school transformed into a lively hub of maker spaces, with vibrant corners focusing on ART & CRAFT, SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS, BUSINESS, and TRADITIONAL GAMES, all themed around a village setting. This engaging environment sparked curiosity and encouraged collaboration among children, supporting their overall development.
Corner Activities:
Art Corner: Here, the children immersed themselves in painting, exploring different colors and techniques. They created magical artworks using candles, brushes, and thread, expressing their creativity and proudly showcasing their masterpieces.
Craft Corner: Children engaged in crafting unique items such as envelopes and paper bags from waste materials. They also painted and decorated earthen and crystal diyas, adding a personal touch of creativity. Their joy in sharing these creations was truly heartwarming.
Science Centre: The Science Centre captivated the children with exciting experiments like a water fountain and a balloon rocket. These simple experiments sparked curiosity and introduced basic scientific concepts in an engaging, hands-on manner.
Business Corner: This corner stood out as a highlight, encouraging children to interact with “customers” while promoting the school’s charity mission. It allowed them to build social skills, express their creativity, and gain confidence through hands-on business activities.
Plastic Waste Reuse: Promoting sustainability, this activity allowed children to repurpose plastic bottles in creative ways, raising environmental awareness while enhancing their fine motor skills. This initiative emphasized the importance of recycling in a fun and meaningful way.
Makers Day was a celebration of imagination, skill-building, and collaboration, leaving our little learners with a sense of accomplishment and a smile on their faces.
