October 24th, 2024(Thursday) Tobacco Free Campaign has been initiated under the banner of Surat Municipal Corporation, Katargam Zone in which students from Gajera Vidhyabhavan under the leadership of Dr. Ritesh Agrawal ,principal of the same of the school , aims to protect young people from the harmful effects of tobacco use and promote healthier lifestyles.
The Head of SMC, Katargam visited to school and addressed to all students and made them aware about the harms or negative impact and effect of the Tobacco consuming.
Later on he had asked to all students to take an oath to live a free of Tobacco and also give our time for our society to aware about the same.
After the speech all students started a rally from our campus to SMC Katargam Zone office with holding banners in the hands conveying message to all citizens the harmful effect of the tobacco and urged not to use tobacco in the lives.
Key Focus Areas of the Campaign
Public Awareness: Increasing awareness about the dangers of tobacco, especially targeting youth and rural communities.
Educational Institutions: Improving compliance with the revised **Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions guidelines to keep schools and colleges tobacco-free.
Law Enforcement: Strengthening enforcement of tobacco control laws, particularly COTPA 2003 and Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA) 2019 to limit youth access to tobacco.
Tobacco-Free society: Promoting the creation of Tobacco-Free Villages where communities collaborate to eliminate tobacco use and foster healthier environments.
Social Media Outreach: Using digital platforms to spread strong messages about the harms of tobacco and the benefits of quitting, particularly targeting young audiences.
Health Impact: 13 lakh people die annually in India due to tobacco-related diseases. Tobacco has become a trend among the youth, but it poses significant health risks, including cancer.
