Makarsankranti is a Hindu festival celebrated on the 14th of January every year. Kite flying is an important aspect of this festival. As the sun moves towards the north, its rays are said to have a medicinal effect on the body. Hence, people get out in the open to fly kites and receive the healing rays of the sun. Uttarayan is celebrated in a big way in Gujarat. Farmers celebrate it to thank mothernature for a beautiful crop. In general, it depicts the start of a period of peace, prosperity and goodwill.
We celebrated Kite Flying celebration in our campus. The tiny tots shared a fun filled day with their educators and friends. The school campus was beautifully decorated with colorful kites. It was beautiful sight to see the learners traditionally dressed.
The main objective of this celebration was the donation. Donating to the poor and needy holds great importance. On this day our little kiddos donated various items to underprivileged people. Connecting the celebration to the importance of charity fosters valuable life lessons. Learners brought breakfast( Til laddu & Chikki) from their home and explained them the importance of it in this particular festival.
The festival is celebrated all across India and is known by various names in each state. For example Uttarayan in Gujarat &Rajasthan, Lohri in Punjab, Makarsankranti in Maharashtra and Thai Pongal in Tamil Nadu etc. These were introduced them with live character.
Festivity was in the air as the entire Pre-Primary gathered together outside to engage in a kite flying frenzy. Enjoyment and learning went hand in hand as the educators flew kites and explained the little ones the precautions to be taken during kite flying. The most awaited festival of the kids on which they wake up early climb on the terrace fly the kites and shouts on a high pitch saying KAYPO CHHE.
