“There’s something so special about a woman who dominates in a man’s world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness and the nerve to never take no for an answer.”
A day dedicated specially for the women was celebrated in our school, Shree H J Gajera English Medium School, Primary School, Katargam with pomp and glamour. The women’s day is celebrated to cherish all the women in our life, be it in the form of mother, wife, sister or daughter.
As per what history says about this day: Zetkin was a well-regarded speaker, who saw workers’ movements as the only way for women to have their rights. With over 100 women from 17 countries in attendance at the conference, Zetkin’s suggestion was accepted. In 1911, more than “one million women and men attended rallies campaigning for women’s rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination” in countries across Europe. Thus, there was a growing recognition for having a day of commemoration.
The United Nations started marking the day in 1975, and by 1977, the UN General Assembly had encouraged member states to declare March 8 as the UN Day for Women’s Rights and World Peace. International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.
In our school we marked this day with the lady staff coming in pink or purple attire. They were quite happy to know that this year too we were celebrating this day for them. The male staff of our section planned the whole programWe arranged a special surprise for them. All the ladies were presented with a card. The program was arranged for our IT Operator, Vice-principal, Educators, Peon and Sweeper even. After the card was presented to them, games were also exclusively arranged. All of them participated in the games and enjoyed a lot. Finally the celebrations ended with refreshments for all.
“Don’t think about making women fit the world — think about making the world fit women.” – Gloria Steinem
